Growing companies are like Jenga Towers

 by George ELIOT

Growing a company is like building a Jenga Tower (out of woodblocks):

In good times, companies grow bigger and bigger, just like a Jenga Tower gets taller and taller with the addition of every new wood block.

However, when hard times come (economic crisis, war, etc), organisations first embark on cost-cutting, which is equivalent to removing blocks from the tower. Eventually rickety structures collapse. The more rickety the initial structure (whether it is a company or Jenga Tower), the sooner it will collapse.
